Two great wines to try: Campesino is a tribute to the farmers who toiled this ancient valley after the conquering Incas introduced agriculture in the 15th century. The dark smoky fruit, vibrant palate and ripe tannins combine to deliver an approachable red wine perfect for any occasion. Mas Oliveras A refreshing blend of local grape Macabeo and Chardonnay, from the historic, family run Bodegas Roqueta in the Catalonian Pyrenees. Open and aromatic with pretty white flowers on the nose.

This vibrant, aromatic wine comes from the Awatere Valley, south of the better-known Wairau Plains. Michiel Eradus, owner/winemaker, believes the prolonged ripening period here is key to the wines' flavour intensity. Eradus Sauvignon is herbaceous and mineral with a long, rich finish. A distinctive style of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with intense fruit flavours and aromatic depth.
Looking forward to getting this on the shelf! Champagne Delamotte's Rose is a blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards. Delamotte still produces its rose by the 'saignee' method, a highly-skilled technique employed by a few discerning Champagne houses. Not cheap, but this house is owned by Salon and the wine is delightfully moreish. Soft strawberry fruit, lots of racy mineral notes and a certain creaminess and richness of red fruit on the palate. Nicely pitched acidity beats at the heart of this dry, food friendly wine. Goes with: Smoked fish

This white Marsannay Le Clos is a monopole (that means the entire vineyard is owned by one proprietor). It’s 100% Chardonnay using 30% new oak. Le Clos has amazing acidity, with notes of honey on the finish. It is stylish and fresh with ripe and lucid fruit which allows the terroir to shine. It’s a beauty.
